Back in Grand Rapids we were members of Orchard Hill Reformed Church. For years, until the time we moved, we were part of a great small group that usually met every other Friday night. We had a great setup where each week one of the couples in the group would lead the Bible study, one would host the gathering, and one would make dessert. We’d take turns doing each, allowing for a great sampling of desserts … and leading styles, of course.

A couple weeks ago on a Friday night, I got a call from some of our friends at one of their small group meetings. At first I thought it was to see how we were doing in Virginia and to let us know they missed us. But I soon realized they simply wanted to let me know they now get more dessert with me being gone. This was confirmed by the picture I received in email a few short minutes after our call.

Incidentally, Orchard Hill is nearing the end of a long process to find a new pastor. We’re praying for you all!

It’s Friday night and here we are again at Bible study. We pulled out Aaron’s computer (he’s not here) to view Brian’s blog. We had plans to give Brian a call but found a public venue more to our liking.

We always knew that it would happen and finally it did. A crossing of communications led to the inevitable, but enviable, situation where we now have TWO DESSERTS!!!! I’d post it here for proof but I don’t think I’m allowed. Thus I’m left to describe every tasty detail.

DESSERT 1: An apple cake topped with a caramel topping fit for a King

DESSERT 2: A hearty triple chocolate suicide cake topped with whipped cream and served ala mode.

Brian, we knew it happen, we’re just sorry you couldn’t be here to enjoy!

OK, now that’s over the top. I hope for your sake that the person leading the lesson wasn’t lost in that “crossing of communications.” That, combined with extra dessert surely means extra time in purgatory. :-P

By the way, I’m fairly certain there are ways to send dessert in some kind of overnight shipment should such a communication crossing occur again. I can get you our address. I’m just saying …
